Kanne Caves

It is dark. And eerily quiet. And yet, you can see, hear, and most importantly, feel the stories of the Kanne Caves on-site.

The towering, cool passages form a fascinating world. The kilometers-long system was left behind centuries ago by the quarrymen. Buildings in Kanne and far beyond are constructed from soft yellow limestone. For over 500 years, life has existed in this now seemingly desolate quarry. As storage space for village residents, farmers, bakers, and winemakers. A shelter during wars. Or as a breeding ground for our underground treasure: the cave mushroom.

Book a tour, individually or in a group

Book the visit that best suits you, with or without a tasting, and wander guided through the mysterious Riemst limestone tunnels.

Tip! Don’t forget your jacket or sweater. Whether winter or summer, in the Kanne Caves, it is always 11°C with about 96% humidity.

Cave Mushroom Farm

Did you know that the cave mushroom from Riemst is recognized as a regional product? And that you can also buy them in numerous supermarkets across Belgium? But to visit the cave mushroom farm… That can only be done in the Kanne Caves. Book your visit via Grotten van Kanne VZW. Find out here or in our hospitality guide where you can taste this underground flavor bomb.
